AFFAME, Benin

This project is supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in the rural community around the village of Affame in Benin, about two hours from the capital Porto-Novo. More than 100 older children (13+) are supported into secondary school, apprenticeships and university, whilst a small number of younger children are now resident in a small orphanage.

From 2001 HATW has worked with the community constructing buildings including a maternity home, clinic and small orphanage. When floods washed away the school, we helped rebuild it, on stilts! Currently we are helping with appropriate agricultural machinery to generate income leading to long term sustainability.

Hands Around the World Jersey don’t have direct involvement with this project, but it is supported by generous annual donations from a Jersey resident.
