Kibangira

When we first visited this school in the outskirts of Bugarama many of the buildings were in a depressing state. In 2017, with the help of a grant from Jersey Overseas Aid, we built five new classrooms and a toilet block. Work began with local villagers undertaking community work, ‘umuganda’, clearing the land and preparing foundations.

Since then we have renovated two classrooms, painted a further dozen classrooms and provided a staff toilet, girls hygiene room and a new school kitchen to replace a dilapidated tin shack.

The school has been transformed. Recent exam results at this school have been better than ever, underlining the importance of pride in the school and new sense of confidence among pupils in their future worth.
