PROJECTS
HANDS AROUND THE WORLD JERSEY’S principal partnership is now Rwanda where we have been working in Rusizi District in the south-west for the past ten years. Working with Rwandan Schools Village Project (RSVP – www.rsvpcharity.org.uk ) and with five different schools, we have been helping them to achieve their ambitions for better conditions and opportunities for their children and young people.
We receive magnificent support from Jersey Overseas Aid including substantial grants for construction projects as well as 50:50 matching grants (where JOA matches funds we raise ourselves). We also do a lot of fundraising ourselves to extend the construction projects and support selected students into secondary school, university and vocational training.
In the past, we have worked with projects in Brazil, Uganda and Zambia and have a special relationship with an orphanage in Benin. Check the drop-down menu above for more details about past and present projects.
We regularly organize project teams visiting our partners with volunteers working hand in hand with local people. Tasks may include painting, small scale renovation works, teaching English – or we can make use of any specific skills people may offer. These visits last between three to four weeks.
